How do you sell on B&Q Marketplace (diy.com)?

The short answer

To sell on B&Q Marketplace, apply through Kingfisher's Merchant Hub and pass B&Q's seller verification. Once approved, you list products and manage offers and orders in a Mirakl seller portal, ship orders yourself and pay commission by category. Sales then go to whoever holds the PayBox, the cheapest live offer on each product.

Key takeaways

  • B&Q chooses its sellers: you apply, pass verification and keep meeting its service standards after you join.
  • Your shop runs on Mirakl, so offers, orders and API keys all sit in one seller portal.
  • Commission varies by category, so work out break-even per category before you set prices.
  • You arrange delivery, but shoppers can return most marketplace items to a B&Q store.
  • On shared products, the cheapest live offer takes the PayBox and most of the sales.

What is B&Q Marketplace?

B&Q Marketplace is the part of diy.com where approved third-party sellers list products alongside B&Q's own range. B&Q opened it in 2022 on Mirakl, the platform behind many retailer marketplaces. A marketplace here means the retailer runs the website and the shopper's checkout, while each seller sets its own prices and ships its own orders.

B&Q says the marketplace now offers more than 1.2 million products from more than 1,100 verified sellers. Shoppers see seller items labelled "Sold and shipped by" the seller's name. For Kingfisher, B&Q's owner, it's a growth channel: in the six months to 31 July 2026, Kingfisher reported marketplace gross merchandise value across the group up 42% to £372 million.

Who can sell on B&Q Marketplace?

B&Q doesn't let anyone list. It says it carefully chooses every seller, big and small, and runs background checks focused on customer service, including smooth deliveries and returns. Sellers agree to B&Q's terms and must show they can meet its customer expectations. Integration partners' guides add that you need to be VAT-registered in the UK and have barcodes (EANs) for your products.

Verification doesn't stop once you're live. B&Q keeps checking each seller's performance through customer reviews, order cancellations and delivery times. A strong product range gets you in; reliable service keeps you there.

How do you apply and set up your shop?

  1. Apply on Kingfisher's Merchant Hub. Fill in the application form with details of your business and range.
  2. Pass verification. B&Q checks your business, your service record and whether your range fits alongside its own.
  3. Set up your Mirakl seller portal. Once approved, this is where you manage listings, offers, orders and customer messages.
  4. List your products. Match to existing products where B&Q already has the page, or create new ones with full product data and barcodes.
  5. Create your offers. Each offer carries your price, stock, delivery cost and lead time, all of which shoppers compare.
  6. Connect your tools. Order management, stock feeds and pricing tools connect with your shop's Mirakl API key from the seller portal, so you never share your password.

What does it cost to sell on B&Q Marketplace?

B&Q doesn't publish a rate card. You pay a commission on each sale, set by category and agreed when you join. Integration partners such as ChannelEngine also report a monthly subscription and give a commission range by category, but treat any published figure as a guide and confirm your own rates with B&Q before you price.

Because commission differs by category, two products at the same price can earn you very different amounts. Your break-even is the price at which a sale covers your cost price, delivery and commission and leaves nothing over. Work it out for each category before your first price goes live.

Worked example (illustrative figures, ignoring VAT). You sell a garden hose reel at £44.99. Your cost price is £24, delivery costs you £6, and the commission in that category is 14% (£6.30). Each sale earns £8.69. A rival lists at £39.99 and takes the PayBox. Matching at £39.98 would cut commission to £5.60 and leave you £4.38 a sale. That's still a profit, but half what you made before, so check whether the rival can actually deliver before you move.

How do delivery and returns work for B&Q sellers?

You fulfil your own orders. Once an order is accepted on diy.com, you schedule and arrange delivery, and the lead time you set appears at checkout and on the order confirmation. Seller items have one delivery option, so your lead time and delivery cost are part of your offer, not an afterthought.

  • Returns: shoppers have 90 days to return items in their original condition. For most marketplace products they can arrange a home pickup or take the item to a B&Q store.
  • Click + Collect: available on selected products from selected sellers, at selected stores, but not for same-day collection.
  • Customer messages: shoppers contact you through a "Contact seller" button, and B&Q monitors those conversations. Sellers typically reply within a few hours, though it can take up to 48.
  • Payment limits: B&Q gift cards can't be used on items sold and shipped by marketplace sellers.

How do you win sales once your B&Q shop is live?

Each product on diy.com has one page, and any approved seller can add an offer to it. The PayBox, the offer a shopper buys from when they click to buy, goes to the cheapest live offer. A rival a penny below you takes the sale, and your offer stays live with nothing to tell you the orders have stopped.

B&Q shows the seller's name on every offer, which makes the competition visible if you look for it. The sellers you'll meet are a mix of brand-owned shops, tool, bathroom and garden specialists, and multi-channel retailers who also sell on other marketplaces. Four habits pay off from your first week:

  • Know every rival on your products, not just the ones you've heard of. New sellers can join a product page at any time.
  • Check the winning price against your break-even for that category before you match it.
  • Raise where you can. If you hold the PayBox well below the next seller, move to just below them and keep the sale.
  • Keep history. A rival who often runs out of stock may hand the PayBox back without you cutting your price. For the trade-offs between rules, see how to reprice on Mirakl marketplaces.

How PriceSynergy helps B&Q sellers

PriceSynergy connects to your diy.com shop through B&Q's own Mirakl API, with the shop ID and API key from your seller portal. Your first catalogue, competitor and order scans start as soon as your shop goes live. It compares your price with every rival's live offer on every product you sell, marks each as cheapest, joint cheapest, undercut or only seller, and works out the winning price, flagged if it's below your min price or break-even after the commission on your own order lines.

It also keeps 90 days of price and PayBox history per product and builds a directory of every seller you compete with on diy.com. See selling on B&Q with PriceSynergy, competitor monitoring, PayBox tracking or plans and pricing.

Questions sellers ask

Can anyone sell on B&Q Marketplace?

No. B&Q chooses its sellers. You apply through Kingfisher's Merchant Hub and pass B&Q's verification, which checks your customer service, deliveries and returns, and B&Q keeps checking performance after you join.

What commission does B&Q Marketplace charge?

B&Q charges a commission on each sale that varies by category and is agreed when you join. It doesn't publish a rate card, so confirm your rates with B&Q before you set prices.

Does B&Q deliver marketplace orders?

No. Marketplace sellers arrange their own delivery, and the lead time you set is shown to the shopper at checkout. Shoppers can return most marketplace items to a B&Q store.

Is B&Q Marketplace built on Mirakl?

Yes. B&Q launched its marketplace on diy.com in 2022 on Mirakl. Sellers manage listings, offers and orders in a Mirakl seller portal and connect tools with their shop's API key.

How does B&Q decide which seller gets the sale?

When several sellers offer the same product, the PayBox goes to the cheapest live offer. Out-of-stock or switched-off offers don't count.

Can I use the same tools on B&Q as on Tesco, The Range or Argos?

Usually, yes. All four marketplaces run on Mirakl, so tools that connect through the Mirakl API work the same way on each, with each marketplace's own API key and commission.
